Our after-school and home-school Spanish enrichment classes, grades K-5, immerse students in the Spanish language and culture through various games, crafts, roles, creative movement, playing, cooking, songs, reading, and videos. All these fantastic activities highlight the wonders of the Spanish world. We encourage collaboration and cooperation among our students to develop communication and language skills. Activities are planned to ensure students can use the language individually and in small groups.
To learn a new language, students must embrace the Spanish language and explore the culture. Thomasoulas (2001) suggests that culture and communication are inseparable because "culture not only dictates who talks to whom about what, and how the communication proceeds, it also helps to determinate how people encode a message, the meaning they have for messages, and the conditions and circumstances under which various messages may or may not be sent, noticed, or interpreted."
Students listen to the Spanish language during classes, which helps them acquire correct pronunciation and vocabulary; repetition is critical to learning a second language. New vocabulary is introduced and practiced in many ways to develop increased understanding. Classes are planned in response to various learning styles.
